NEWZEALAND INDUSTRIES

i — ANOTHER EXHIBITION TO BE HELD. FROM MAY 12 to 19. At last night's meeting of the committee of the Wellington Industrial Association, it was finally decided to hold an exhibition of New Zealand manufactures this year. The secretary, Mr. 11.. F. Allen, reported that ho had circularised about 150 manufacturers regarding Industries Week, and had received a fair number of replies. Many of the writers were in favour of the proposal to hold the exhibition in May, but one or two spoko of April, and one suggested June. One exhibitor thought the Town Hall should be used' for the occasion, making a collccted show. Tho chairman (Mr. A. W. Newton) said tho idea was to get tho people about tho shops. He was opposed to a collcetivo display. Mr. 11. H. Soaton thought a display in the shops as well as a moderate ono in a particular building might be found convenient. The secretary remarked that tho Christchurch people were going in for a window display this year. Dullness in trade was urged by some tradesmen as a reason why they did not care to give their windows, over to tho display of certain articles only. "If moro attention was paid to local industries, there would be much less unemployment," interjected a member. On tho motion of Mr. Soaton, it was decided that the Industrial Association co-oper-ato with the Shopkeepers' Association in holding the exhibition of local industries, the display to be in the windows. , The date 1 was fixed from May 12 to 19. It was decided to further circularise manufacturers, informing them that a date hod been fixed, and inviting their co-operation. The suggestion was made that tho electric power-house and Technical School should be thrown open to visitors , during Industries Week. The secretary was instructed to write to tho Minister for Railways asking for concessions for country visitors. The subject of essays on window displays by scholars was brought up, and it was decided to ask tho Headmasters' Association to appoint representatives to confer with the Industrial Association on the matter.
