Replying to a question asked in tho House of Commons by Mr. John Ward (Labour), tho First Commissioner of Works (Mr. Harcourt) announced tho cancellation of a big carting contract becauso tho contracting firm had not paid t(ie rate of wages specified in tho contract, and bad bribed two Government employees.' The Minister added that part of the money forfeited would bo distributed among tho employees who had beon defrauded of tneir wages. Tho statement was received with cheers.
