NAPIER DRIVERS' DISPUTE SETTLED. Tho Council of Conciliation—Mr. P. J. Hally, commissioner, and Messrs, Patrick Barry and Henry J. Bull, assessors for tho employers, and Messrs. Richard H. Stephens and Robert J. Farmer, assessors for the workers—have recommended that tho agreement entered into by tho parties to the Napier drivers' dispute should bo embodied ill an award of tho Court of Arbitration. Employers at Napier. Clivo, Hastings, und Danuevirko aro affccted b.V tho new conditions. Following is a brief summary of tho provisions of tho agreement: The hours of work per week shall number '18, exclusive of time required for stable attendance. Any worlc performed between 7 p.lll. and G a.m. shall bo paid for at tho rato of Is. 3d. per hour. In respcct of grocers' drivers tho hours stipulated in the Shops and Offices Act shall be' observed. Grocers' drivers may be employed! as shop assistants, and vice versa. Bakers' drivers not working full timo at delivering shall be allowed to do casual work other than that which may only bo douo b.v journeymen bakers under tho award. Special provisions aro included in regard to other classes of drivers. The minimum rates of wages shall bo: —For those driving and uttendjng ono horso £2 6s. per week, and two or more horses £2 Bs. Gd., provided that in tho caso of a single horse driver attending a change hcrso 110 shall bo entitled to £2 7s. per week: for bakers' drivers, single men 21 years of ago and over 2Gs. per week and found, or 41s. dry pay, and married men 445. dry pay; groccrs' drivers solely employed at driving 445. per week, partially employed 425. 6d., for sanitary and rubbish cart drivers £2 15s. per week and two suits of overalls per year; casual drivers Is.' pn- hour and overtime Is. 3d. per hour. Employers shall be at liberty to employ youths of the age of 18 years anil over at not less than the following wages:—l 3 to 19 years, 21s. per week; 19 to 20 years, 275.; 20 to 21 years, 30s. The number of youths shall not exceed 1 to each employer, and one to each four additional fully paid drivers. Other rates aro fixed in regard to bakers' and grocers' apprentices. Overtime rates shall bo: — Is. per hour for the first 1} hours, and for time worked in excess of 8{ hours Is. 3d. per hour. Preference to unionists is provided for. Tho proposed award shall apply within tho limits of a radius of 10 miles from tho chief post offices at Napier and Hastings, and seven inijes from tho 'jxjst office at Datinevirke. Two years is the period during which tho conditions shall remain in force.
