The Italian elections havo given Signor Giolitti's Government a largo majority. fSignor Giovanni Giqlitti became Italian Premier for tho third time in 1905, and Minister of tho Interior. Born at Mondovi in 1812, of an old but poor family of mountaineers, l-o has preserved the same simple habits as when he was a struggling barrister. After occupying several minor legal posts he entered politics in 1882 as Deputy for Coni, and soon came to the front as a man of great independence and ability, and also as an orator. Although he became Minister of tho Treasury under Crispi (1S89), he subsequently fought the Crispinian policy with the greatest determination as Prime Minister. When he fell and his opponent returned to power, Signor Giolitti crossed the frontior, having been advised that his arrest had been decided on.
