FIRES.

A SERIES OF CITY OUTBREAKS. SOME ATTRIBUTED TO TRAMPS. Tho Fire Brigado wore kept busy during Saturday evening, three calls being receivedbetween 10 p.m. and midnight. At 10.32 p.m. an outbreak occurred amongst some packing cases at tho rear of Sir. J. B. Innes's shop, 105 Willis Street, which building was gutted a few weeks ago. Tho flames from the packing cases spread to tho side wall of Mr. l'\ Cohen's draper's shop, and slightly damaged a storeroom at the rear and its contents. At 11 p.m. a malicious falso alarm was given from tho Artluir Street alarm-box, and at J 1.57 a genuine call waa rcceivcd from tho sanio box. It was found that an old shop and l'our-roomcd dwelling which arc about to be pulled down were oil (ire. Tho front room on the first floor was slightly damaged. Tho building is owned by the Matapo Timber Company, Wangunui. Tramps are suspcctcd' to bo tho causo of the lire. A fire amongst some rubbish in Mr. J!.; Lainberg's asphalt works slied, Victoria Street), resulted in n call at 7.15 yesterday, the causo of this outbreak also being attributed to tramps. At 10.4 last night another, call was received to a gorsc fire noar tho Tinakori Road viaduct. Mr. A. Montgomorio, of Greylown, had his residence burnt down about 3 o'clock oil Saturday-morning. Ho went,to bed as usual, and, ou waking at tho time stated,, found tho house on lire. His wife and family being away, be had no assistance, and could not save much from tho burning building. 'J'lio house belonged to Mr. J. (.'otter, and tho furniture, which was Sir. Montgomery's, was insured for £100. (nv TELEGiura—riinss association.) Levin, March 6. A fire'at Shannon at H.SO last night do. strayed a blacksmith's shop, occupied iiy B. M. 'jell'crios, and owned by Mr. '.I\ Lind. About £30 .worth of material for the new Druids' Hall was also destroyed. There was no insurance, and the loss is estimated at £300. Tho residence of T. Lind and the Druids' llall had a narrow escape. Gcro, March 6. Mr. P. Duggan's house at. Mar.dervillo waf totally destroyed by lire this morning. Thert was an insurance of £200 on tho building, and £100 on the furniture, in the New Zealand oftiee.
