TOURS ON OTAGO LAKES.
IMPENDING CHANGES. (BY TELEGRAM—SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.) Dunetlln, March 5. The Hon. J. A. Millar, interviewed at Queenstown to-day, said that a new steamer for tho lako was a necessity, as the Ben Lomond was thoroughly unsuited for tho work, and ho would ondeavour, this year, to mako provision on tho estimates for a now boat to be built in New Zealand by New Zealanders. A paddlo boat, somewhat longer than the Mountaineor, and with more beam, and a speed of fifteen knots, would, in his opinion, meet all requirements. The Department could not extend the weekend tickets without'increasing the chargo at present. Tho cheap excursions at the weekends wero not paying. In regard to the winter train service, he said that, as four days a week did not pay now, he could not seo his way to givo a daily train in tho winter time. , Regarding monthly winter trips, a trial would be given to them in the coming months by running, say, three trips at suitable dates.
