THE TURF.

NOTES AND COMMENTS. fß* Glencoe.l There hns been a good deal in _ the local papers recently concerning tho winning jockeys, but there has not yet been a list published which contains the exact positions of tuo two leaders, Hatch and Deeley. Up to dato natch has ridden 55 winners and Deeley has ridden ■H, so that il' the latter is not improving his position very fast ho is certainly not losing ground. Tiiis aftornoon, at Wanganui, Hatch will ride Tiptoe in tho Stewards' Handicap, Tuitoko in tho Cup, and Sir Frisco in tho Flying Handicap. Provided tho Trentham jockey can ride within 21b. of Provocation's correct weight ho will have the mount on Mr. Bidwill's colt in the Jackson Stakes on Saturday, but if ho is unable to do Deeley will have tho mount. n. Prico will bestrido Paritut.il in tho Wanganui Cup this afternoon. This completos the list of Cup jockeys published in yesterday s issue. Downfall, who arrived at Wanganui on Tuesday, was responsible for a smart gallop on thotrack yesterday morning, and it is evident that the New Zealand Cup winner is very lit at the present time. Of tho candidates in tho Flying Handicap, Armlet appears to bo as well as any of tho others, and the track will suit a quick beginner like her. H. Donovan has arrived from lliccarton to rido her. L. Wilson will have tho mount on Waikaraka in tho Flying Handicap, and H. Prico will rido Waihuku in tho same raco. ( It transpires that the sale of All Red is oil, and the big 6on of Stepniak will continue to carry Mr. Buckley's colours in this country, and late.- on be retired to tho stud on his present owner's station. On tho AVanganui tracks yesterday morning, the Porirua horsa was responsible for an attractive gallop with Blue Ribbon, and although ho has a great weight to carry there aro a lot who expect him to perform creditably. His owner will be present to sec him run. Tho Porirua stable will start two horses in tho big hurdle race at Wanganui to-day, Exmoor and Waimaria. W. Young will ride tho former and A. M'Connon the latter. M'Connon will also rido Tauira in tho hack hurdle race. This is tho liorso that ran in tho welter events at Trcntham in January. Tho Persimmon filly Perolina, who ran first and second in her two races at the Manawatu Christinas meeting, will be given another run at Wanganui this aftornoon. Ballarat's half-brother Courier is at the head of tho handicap to-day, but those who saw the son of Advanco win at the Eginont meeting aver that he is not harshly treated. Although it was in many quarters expected that Signor would triumph in tho Australian Cup yesterday, it is not surprising to find that ho was beaten by l'eudil, for tho latter, though he beat him in tho Essendon Stakos on Saturday, met Signor on better terms in yesterday's handicap event. Perhaps the three miles in the Champion Stakes on Saturday will give Signor a chance, but, as a matter of fact, three-year-olds havo all tho best of tho weight-for-age scale in this event, and that was what enabled Peru to beat Apologue last year.
