Advantago was taken of tlio visit of tho Minister for Mines to Coromandel on Saturday (says an Auckland Press Association message) to present Mr. C. E. Matthews, his privato secretary, with n beautiful gold albert as a mark of tlio esteem in which lie is hold by tlio residents of Coromandel. The presentation was made by Captain Swindloy, county chairman, on behalf of tho subscribers. Captain Swindloy referred to tlio largo amount of work which Mr. Matthews had been ablo to accomplish for tlio district whilst acting in tho_ capacity of privato secrotary for tlio ex-Minister for Mines. Apart from secretarial work, Mr. Matthews had won hosts of friends throughout tho district, and they wore now anxious to givo expression to their feelings by moans of a suitable gift. Mr. Matthews, who was greatly surprised, feelingly acknowledged tlio presentation.
