An industrial agreement, which is to come into force on Saturday,'has been arrived at between the Auckland Electric Tramway Company and the Tramways Union of employees. The award of the; Arbitration Court, under which, work has. been carried on formerly, expired a little while back, and 'the. union had.given:notice of intention to apply for a mew.'one.i The:agreement arrived at, howovor, obviates, the necessity for application to the Court except that a copy will be lodged with the, Court and registered as an award. The agreement, which is for two years, provides that the following shall be the minimum rates of wages,payable to the several: classes of workers:—Motormen, under one year, Is. per hour; over one year, 15..0Jd.; over two years, Is. Id.; over three years, Is. ljd. Conductors, under ono year, IOJd. ;'.over one year, lid.; over two years, Hid.; over three years, Is. Switchmen, lljd.-. Switchboys, sd. Trackmen, Is. Track repairers, Is. General labourers, Ist. Car cleaners, IOJd. . Car examiners, Is. V.lid. Pitmen and truckmen, .Is. <-Firemen . (charge hands), Is.
