FBILDING. • W. M. Whishaw, land agent, this morning filed a petition in bankruptcy. He has been prominent in the Short-Harden motor-car incident. '.' • Mr. William Henry Powell, the licensed Jay-reader of; St. John's Church, Feilding, was found lying unconscious on the road in, Church Street, Palmerston North, on Thursday night. He was conveyed in.Dr. Martin's motor-car to,, the hospital, where it was found, that he was,suffering from hemorrahage of the brain, and his condition was a very serious one: He had evidently had a fall from his bicycle, as the lamp-was f ?und smashed, to pieces near where he lay. ■■; Mr. S.W. Fitzherbert, who is at present a member of the Borough Council, has dehmtely decided to contest the Mayoral seat at the municipal elections in April-next. ■;.- PAHIATITA. . '■::/■ | :A. An enjoyable social was held at Greytown on Thursday evening to welcome the Rov. Mr. Stowelf, tho new Presbyterian minister who has been called to this charge. A number of vocal items were contributed, and refreshments provided by tho ladies. The Mayor of Greytown and tho Rev. L, Thompson, Cartorton, both extended a hearty welcome to Mr. Stowoll, and tho latter suitably replied.
