Two apples (peeled, cored, and out into thin slices), sprinkle a little sugar over, and then dip in the batter, and fry m deep boiling fat. !Drain on paper, and servo at once with sugar sifted over ithom. ' x batter" for, fritters. Jib. of flour, 1 egg, 1 teaspoonful of 'buttery 1 pu of tepid water. Put the flour in a basin. Beat the yolk of an egg with the water. Bunny, who, with her family, has beon staying at Muritai for tho past three or four months', is at present paying a flying visit to Masterton, returning in a lew days time for a fow more weeks at Muritai. Miss Vallanoo and Miss Ethel Bennett returned to Masterton yesterday morning, after spending a few dajs in town. Miss E. Wyett is spending some time in "Wellington with her brother, Mr. 1 E. Wyett, and his wife. Miss Ruby Hibbard, of "Tdevarrack," Merivalo, Christchurch, who has been spending some weeks with her sister, Mrs. Geo. Machon, ""Dirfliy," Featherston, has gone to visit friends in Dannovirko. Miss E. Blomquist, who for the past two years has been assistant mistresß at Te Ore Ore School, Ma3terton, and who has, been transferred to Karangahape School, Auckland, was presented yesterday afternoon with a pair of silver-mounted cut glass scent bottles. Mr. A. J. Percy, chairman of the School Committee, on behalf of the pupils und committee, referred in eulogistic terms to Miss Blomquist's ability as a teacher, and wished her every success in her new position. ' *■ The second carnival of the Masterton Ladies' Swimming Club drew a largo crowd "of deeply-interested relatives and friends of the various competitors at the r Pubho Baths on Thursday afternoon, Tho day was delightfully warm and sunny, and the water invitingly clear. A string band',enlivened the proceedings with'music, and afternoon tea . mas dispensed, under tho supervision of Mesdames Eton, Graham, and Yarr. The president of the club,' Mrs. Blackman, presented the prizes, some of which were very handsome, and were donated by various friends and sporting enthusiasts.
