The Auckland, City Council. wrote drawing attention' to tho .provision -in : the Local Bodies Loans Act, by which tho Public TVu6teo. is; inado .the , sole Commissioner' ,of Sinking Funds of local bodies ..loans,: and .urging that the Act I .should'bo amended by- striking out that, provision. . . . Tlie Mayor moved that- tho Auckland City Council; be informed that tlie Karori Council was quite' .willing to cci-operato 'in: attaining theresult 'they desired.-'' The -'motion was agreod to. .'- -A'-.request;was-received from tho Karori Footaall Club asking to be allowed to play on . two.Vgrounds ■ in; Karori . for- the coming season; . ,The .application ,was referred to the .Grounds Committee. . ;

Councillor ■ Lissington moved ; that.- the Karori State school children bo carried free to and'from- the; city'tram terminus of,the borough on the occasion of the school annual picnic to-morrow. It was agreed to grant the; concession.-,. '
The towa clerk submitted a list of names of persons who had not-paid their , rates—26' .in'Karori-and 26 in Northland. In the latter "cases, - the : amounts 'were • for special rates..;':\Tne Mayor said the' demand would be ;resisted;on -the part, of. 'the Northland ratepayers— at. least, , he; had - been informed "to tha:t effect. -1 Councillor - Smith moved : that legal, proceedings be,, taken to recover ' the rates.: ,' Councillor-- Lissington : said he did not think the council could suo. until March 31. The ; Mayor,-' said- the', rates : could bo re r covered at any time after. 14 days of the' date of the demand. Councillor Lissington moved as .an amendment that action Ire deferred . -fori' a ofortnight. - : Councillor Smith; said the rates were due . last' October. '.Councillor • Bradnock thought it was unjust: to pick out a few ratepayers and.summon them. Councillor Cathie deprecated allowing this matter 'to be treated in a ; jslipshod way.' The rates were duo, and • should be paid."' The amendment was carried by three votes to' two.
• The. question of the timetable for buses from the tram, terminus to South Karori was, referred to the •• Tramways Committee, with' power to act. • : The. council .then -went into committee to consider 'the. question of submitting to the ratepayers proposals for a loan of £27,500 for extending the tramways from ■ the present terminus to the foot of Malcara hill. .
