A firo on the steamer Presidento Rooa, a steel screw steamer of 2807 tons gross, resulted in loss of life, The steamer was running between Southern Argontina and Buenos Ayres when tho outbreak occurred. Attempts to 'suppress tho firo failed, and tho vessel sank. Of the 370 persons on board, twenty were drowned, and 350 saved.
