Some anxiety was felt to-day at tho no* arrival of the Manuka, which, was due here about daylight. At a lato hour to-night sho arrived off tho heads with a vessel, supposed to bo a steamer, in tow. and accompanied by ' tho Waipori, which had been sent to search for her. The vessels anchored outsido the heads and will not come in until tho morning. Tho identity of the vessel which waa picked up is not known. ACCIDENT TO THE ULIMAROA.' . SEVERAL PLATES DAMAGED. Dunodin, February 21, The Ulimaroa struck Quarantine Island while coming up the harbour on Saturday, and damaged several plates. She will probably bo sent , to Lyttelton for docking, *and the Taluno will probably take up her running, leaving for Melbourne on Monday night. JOINING HANDS. WATERSIDE WORKERS' PROPOSAL. The hearing of tho libel action brought against Francis Augustus ' Jones, proprietor, ot the "North Auckland Times," by John i Stalluorthy, M.P., proprietor of tho Wairoa "Bell," in which £100 damages was claimed for an alleged false and malicious statement published in'the defendant's newspaper ivas concluded yesterday afternoon, plaintiff getting a verdict for £50. A DANCER TO NAVIGATION. i , Ohrlstohureh, February 20. On arrival at Lyttelton this morning Captain'N. E. Boircr, of the New Zealand Ship- ; ping Company's staamor Turakina, reported to Captain Marciel, shipping master, that at about 10.80 o'clock last night'tho steamer pussod.a largo and partly submerged object , j with the sefi breaking over and around it. The object was about '25 miles off tho eastern ond of Kaikoura Pcnmbula, which was bearing south 56 dog. \Vi by correct mugnotic. Masters of vessels bound in that direction are warned of the object, which constitute! a danger to navigation Captain Marciol immediately on receipt of tho information, telegraphed to the Secretary for Manne advising nim of the report. It is Worthy of hoto that a similar object was passed by the barquentino Mary Isabel on Fobruary 10 a few miles to the southward of Kaikoura Peninsula, and about tcu miles oif tho ehore.
