SOME RECORD PRICES, FOR ENGLISH.STUD ROMNEYS. - (BT TELEGRAPH—SPECIAI KEPOIiTEII.) ;'-..'.'■' " Masterton, February 18. \ ■■/ ,The Masterton ;Ram Fair opened to-day, when .an exceptionally large attendance, of buyers' from all parts of New Zealand;' as welTas a number from Australia, .were present. ...It .was anticipated that the high .prices which had. been ruling for Lihcilns during tho; past three years-would not; be maintained,- and this, proved, to be the ..case, Rams from well-known breeders' flocks were readily 'saleable : at, good average prices, hut .sheep, of inferior quality, were: hard to .dispose of, and; many pens were, passed 'out without eliciting a bid. . There was, however, keen' biddiug for the stud rams from Cha'sY Files's, Elham !flock, England, which were submitted by Messrs.; Dalgetyand Company. These/sheep, eleven,in number, weroon exhibition at the Masterton Show, and commanded much attention ; from Romney. breeders; There were some exceptionally good sheep in this consignment, and '!Elham No. 45"—the first ram'offered—was started at 50 guineas. Five-guinea bids ■rapidly, took the price to 100 guineas, and, after further competition, *the ram was secured by Mr. A. E. I. .Payne, of Melbourne, .at the 'record price oM2O guineas'... ''Elham No. 20" was tho second.sheep offered,: and keen competition also took place .for.-ihis ram.■ ' Bidding rapidly.ran to 90 guinea's/and eventually Mr: } E.
