: The i American circle of the Lyceum Club recently gave a most successful luncheon to nine American <'Rhodes i scholars. Madame' Thayler,, the originator of the scheme-of ' scholarships for vomeQ. on the lines of the Rhodes scholarships, and president of the circle,,' was the principal hostess. Among the guests, present was ■ Miss Clara' Howard; the 6rst woman student who is dowered by tlio Society of American Women in London. Cecil Rhodes was certainly well remembered at this luncheon', for coffee was i accompanied by cigarettes made. from tobacco ■ grown in Rhodesia, which- were handed round b.v a guest in the employ of the Rhodesian Government.
