WEST COAST FARMING.
Iβ ■ -.'.,. : r-::l '-■-■,'7 .-■-".. ■■:.;/;-"':: ';, ■' '- .-.:'.. fi .'As.usual-(writes one of our travelling corit respondents): the country.round-about Maxis welltown and Nukiimaru is looking splendid. «. . A very considerable area is in.rapotais seaIβ son,, but so "many lambs.arb being sent away Iβ, off their jnothers, that one, wonders what it
going to eat off tlieso wonderful rape crops. I had a look through Air. 'J. J. Taylor's lambs at Westmcre. Ho uses Southdown rams on crossbred'.eweß, and the fact that he lias swept the board at the Wangaimi show for several consecutive years sliowb that he has the fat lamb tradoat his finger ■ .ends: : Mr. Taylor has a. Southdown .floclc, • and breeds the ranis for his crossbred flock, j Then, again, Mr. Frank Mooro sent - away 1 several hundreds of fat lambs from his Nukumaru property, straight-from thoir. mo- ' fchers; but what else. can one expect from : the splendid pastures in this favoured lo- '• ca!ity?' All the way up tho coast the far- . mers were getting away considerable ,num- I bors of fat lambs. .I, was rather pleased to : see; the absence of much cropping between. Kai Iwi and AVaverley, not nearly so much, grain having been put in this year; it will be all the better for the'Rangitikei farmers, who have pnt in a record area. Potato •crops were few and small, just as' was the :caso 'in,the' Wanganui district. They say . that it is as cheap to buy as to grow them in these days. The winds were stopping the growth of grass to a ■ consider-ible extent, and the colder weather; has affected the 'milk, supply.
