A letter was read from an ex-patient, of Otaki Hospital;' iu ■ which 'a'; .claim- ; for compensation "was made for, alleged unskilful treatment of a broken, leg. /The doctor, reporting on the casej-sta'ted-that the'.patient had left the hospital sooner than was ad-visable,-in.: opposition .to'h'is' wishes.' •:Evidence was also furnished that the man had a bicycle accident while his.leg was still in a' peak state. The board refused to accept any liability, ; i: ;': ?■•■■';:''- ; •.'"■'_;• The'matron at Otaki reported that during December 2 patients were admitted and 8 discharged, leaving. 11 male and U-female' patients in the sanatorium. At the" hbspital--16 patients had been admitted and the same: number discharged, and'.-■ 10 ' males' and 3 females were now under treatment.. The hospital "had been very ■ busy during, the month, and the work had gone on satisfac-, toiily. : •, /Mr. Kirk introduced the question of upkeep of indigent patients at the Victoria Hospital' for Incurables. An opinion l)ad been obtainod from tho Inspector-General as to whether, thesp .were really, hospital cases, : and Mr. Kirk moved that a committee bo appointed to confer with the Charitable Aid Board: regarding:,the, maintenance of such patient's., ;; .
