■ The chief librarian's report on the necessity for disinfecting books which are frequently handled by the public camo before the Libraries Committee of the City Council yesterday afternoon. It was- decided that a cojiy'of the report (published "in The Dominion on Saturday) should bo . sent- to tho Education Department.' . .The committee further agreed "to ask the Health Department for notification of all cases' of infectious disease within the rcity in order that steps might ' be taken to prevent library books going into houses where infection might be looked for. When books are known to have been in the hands of infectious disease patients, they will be lumigated in the chamber which has been provided-.in- the additions to the Newtown library 'and' museum. I It, is probable that notices .will be put up in the, libraries warning subscribers against' .knowingly permitting .books to-pass into: ihoraes where sickness of an infectious nature is known to exist. What Mr. Henry Bracy edscribe das a trifling accident to'the. Steinway graud piano last eyoning caused a slight delay, and not a little amusement at-Madamo Ada Crossley's conccrt in the Town Hall. Tho accompanist (Mr. |Harold AVhittle) discovered that something ivas .wrong with-the works when accompanying the violinist, M. Samotini, and deserted the stage after the first of the brackteed; pieces had . been played, leaving the amiable-looking violinist to"hold the fort," which ho did in good style, playing a couple of pieces excellently without accompaniment. At the conclusion of tho number Messrs. Whittle and Percy Grainger camo on tho platform, pulled the keyboard, pinched the baok, and reached into the works. Then Mr. Graingeij left the stago looking serious, and Mr. AVhittle scrambled underneath with all the forvour of a distressed motorist. It was all of -no avail—tho soft pedal would not work. Then a conceited-looking upright loomed into viow, and was pushed and pulled up the raked entrance, to the stage by Messrs. Grainger, Whittle) Horaco Hunt, and Leslie (the liall custodian), supervised by Mr. Bracy. After a deal of manoeuvring the upright was placed in position, Mr. Bracy said a few appropriate words of apology, and . tho concert proceeded. , Tho. Steinway was - repaired in time for Mr. Grainger to show his skill in the second half of the programme. "Capilla" 'Hair Tonio will give you strong glossy hair, and will prevont baldness.
