HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL.

The_ monthly meeting of tho Hutt County Council was held yesterday, there being present Mr. iM.-'W: Welch- (in the' chair), and Councillors Whiteman, Wakoham, Lynch, Edwards and-Galloway....: ■,■■'..> .The County,lnspector'(Mr. J. W. CudVy) reported that all roads'were in very'good order. : Moore's Valley BHdgo/in tho Wamiii-o-mata Riding, had been repaired during the month, .by putting on new handrails,. repairing decking, etc. Several ;other small bridges m this and the Mungaroa Riding should also be attended to.. In- the Epuni Riding, a small bridge of 12ft. span, near Gosse's Siding: on' the,Western:Hutt Road;.must be renewed at .once,-and.'be recommended that the pier's bo Of.concrete. The road near Golder's cornor, in.the Horokiivi-Riding, had been widened, greatly improving" it.\ ■ .The spoil .was being used to metal the Pahautanui public pound. The.fencing of Waterfall Qully had been completed satisfactorily'. The' grant". in aid .works, which wore in hand, were progressing satisfactorily.' '■ . .It was decided to hold a.' .-special meeting 'on; January .21 to consider the petition regarding .the merging \of the Plimmerton Road Board in the county. " : ■: .' ' .--> ; A letter 'was received from the Railway Department in reference.; to -■'■a request, that , the Department should, provide, .free of cost; a level crossing at'Hiiyward's' Ford Road, and stating that'the'road" was-legally closed and the general practice was for local bodies tbbear. the cost of such crossings, and the work' would be put in hand 'directly 'the ambunt was paid.
