Out of '£1,281,850, falling due on Jannary 1, over £1,100,000 had been renewed to present holders. Tho figures showing tho expenditure for 1908 wore not yet available, but be believed they would show a considerable increase, and- this was a phase of the financial position which he intended to deal with .comprehensively at an carlv date.
