America:- was arrested; on.a warrant, issued by the, Crown solicitor,- on: be-. half of -the -returning; officer, '-fori making-a, false declaration for registration on the Nel-' son electoral roll. _ It is alleged that accused is ■an .'American• citizen, and not. a naturalised British subject.... In connection: with the_ above, .Mr., Harry Atmore, . who . was'.a ~candidate at ;the recent election for Nelson,.,was .charged '.'that, ..on. the. 2-lth - day of September,, at Nelson,, he did wilfully; mislead_ John Glen, registrar for, tl\e, electoral district, during the compilation, of the electoral roll for Nelson, .-.by causing to' be enrolled the names of Thomas Lorenzo Alfred and Oliver Theodore Nilsen, in respect of a false, qualification, knowing the said-Thomas Lorenzo Alfred, and-Oliver Theodore Nilsen not; to be British subjects by birth or naturalisation in New Zealand." The question of tho adjournment of. . the hearing, till tho return of the Stipendiary Magistrate will bo considered ,by Justices of the Peace.this afternoon.'
