WATERSIDE WORKERS DEFEAT EMPLOYERS (HI TELEGEArH—srECIAL COItRESfONDENT ) Dunedln, January 4 Sixty members of tho Waterside Workers' Union, 'engaged to work the steamer Victoria this morning, refused to turn to when the steamer arrived unless somo non-membors of tholinion (seven or eight mViumbfo) who had also been engaged were put oft. Thq new agreement? came into forco on tho first day of this month, arid the clerk called out from the Cross 'Wharf on Saturday the names of men required at the stipulated time There were, however, only about half a dozen men present, and they were engaged. That thoy woto non-unionists was not known to tho clerk until,this morning. The men, having stated their intention not to work except upon the dismissal of the non-unionists, it was thought advisable to g(\o way to them Three or v four of tho non-unionists expressed willingness to join tne union, and wore allowed to work The rest were dismissed. It was arranged that members of tho union sh6uld be provided with badges , to enable employers to distinguish them from, non-unionists, but, owing to some iause or other,-these badges will not bs available for a week or two Jet,
