A COMPLAINT FROM THE SEASIDE.
i, Sir,—By request of some fellow-residents of Titahi :Bay,/I ,am ■ writing to ask you to givepublicity ..to'..this -protest .in. the:columns of your, valuable paper.' -It appears that several young;.men ,who.,s(;-ay the-week-ends.-at a whare put here; hare : started ...what-, they are pleased to call a band, which discourses alleged music both; day arid, night, and times-is: still: going strong-at .3 -o'clock; in the morning. ~','.» ; 7:.-.-.'.',;;:-':.* . ! .These.seven or.eight young men, who are, otherwise fcni& sane and respectable, are led by one of their:number..who uses, a tin bowl as. a. kettledrum,.:which he- thumps-'with energy andfa jiersistonco worthy ;of a better cause. .His efforts are ably seconded, by. the others, 'who use other weird and ..grotesque instruments of: torture (I; cannot '.call .them musical). • Now,- none of us wish to,- prevent anyone'enjoying themselves:.in any reasonable 'way; • but' as most of us come out here for: rest, and ■ quietness during the week-ends and holidays, we are ' driven;, to protest 'against the'hideous, noises created by,this .so-;. called'band,,which, does not pretend, to play any: proper music, but .which ' is; simply founded to create,as much discord:and noise !&s possible... ; :;-> ■' .;,.':, j We would not mind so much if they would eonfinetheir performances to the day,time, but we c.anhot stand them-at their, favourite time, which seems to. be froml2 midnight to, ' 2; a.m.- or 3 a.m., which is most inconvenient to, any one who wishes to obtain proper sleep/ especially if th'e:,wpuld-be sleeper, is. possessed of a musical ear, then; it is really maddening.
