The first quarter of the cur- ' rent year (April 1 to Jnue 30) showed a decrease 1 of £2,337,389; the second quarter (July l> to , September 30) showed a' deorease of ; ; the third shows a decrease of 4010,518.' The rate i of decrease, therefore, shows a.marked ■ modification in the quarter just completed, But the aggregate shortage for the nine months, • ■£5,029,230, is considerably moro than Half the total estimated annual cost of the new old age pensions, ,£8,060,000.
