KARORI BOROUGH COUNCIL.
FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. The fortnightly meeting of :the..,Karori. , Borough Council was'held last night, .there I being : 'presoritCouncillors Wedde <in the chair), Hammond,. Spiers, Smith,,Bradnock, and Raine. ' ■ . , A letter, was received from the Wellington Harbour' Board, intimating' that a loan of. £1800' would:be granted to the' Council, and asking for formal acceptance of the following terms:—lnterest,- 5 per cent., payable' ' half-yearly; that the amounts be taken up, as they become available, On and after December 1 next, interest on fractional amounts to be paid by the council from-the date when sums aire available to the date of the halfyearly interest .payment; should the debentures through any cause be not ready for issue on December J, .the council to.pay in- . terest to the board on the amount or amounts - available'until 'taken r 'up; that the board's legal costs in connection with the loan bo borne by the Borough Council, tho latter to ■ establish a sinking fund of not less than one per cent, in connection with the. loan. The matter was referred to the finance committee. PROPOSED'TRAMWAY WORKS. Councillor Smith moved;—'"That-the engineer, be instructed to furnish, a report'at' tho next meeting of the council, of the estimated cost of laying a tram from 1 the'mouth of the'tunnel to the'bus.stables, via.Ward's, proposed road to its junction with - Wallace Street, - along the full length of- Wallace Street, and then by the' best available route tt> cross .Donald, Campbell- and Beauchamp Streets to" tho Main Road; the report to contain separate costs for the following items: —(1) Estimted cost of extra earth-works on publio roads or. roads likely to become private-property; (2) estimated cost of earth- - works and road formation on private property.along" the proposed route; (3) estimated cost of laying rails,,labour, and material; (4) estimated cost of acquiring private property under tho Public Works Act, for tho proposed,'tram; ,(5)- plan ■of sub-division of borough by tho proposed route." The, motion was seconded, pro forma, by. Councillor Wedde, and after some discussion,' in which the opinion 'was expressed that tho borough was not yet prepared to face a scheme of such magnitude, it was lost, on the casting vote of the acting-chairman. ■ Mr. H. Cook was appointed representative > for the council on tho Wellington 'Benevolent Board of Trustees.
