Nominations for the Wanganui Guineas, 1909, and the Jackson Stakes, 1910, close 1 with the secretary of the Wanganui Jockey Club on Monday next. Nominations for all events at the Marlborough Racing Club's spring meeting close at the secretary's office, High Street, Blenheim, on Saturday, October 31. NOTES AND COMMENTS. Weights for the first day's events at the Taratahi-Carterton Racing Club's meeting are due on Saturday. Mr. E. P. Webster has been appointed secretary of the Taranaki Jockey Club to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr.Mussel Fleetwood. Wellington public can reach the meeting by the mail train, which will land passengers at the racecourse in ample time for the first race, whilu a train leaves Masterton for Wellington after the last race each evening. At Opaki the course proper is in batt-e# condition for the spring meeting opening on Thursday, than it has ever been before. H. Welch, tne custodian, has made a special effort to get it in good trim. This morning R. Knox's team, consisting of Rose Herald, Lucretius, and Merrie Rose, each ran a mile separately, in practically similar time. After pulling up it was found that Rose Herald was lame, bavins; ricked her near hind leg. Kiltie Lass, Osiris, Sealer, Speciosa, Blue Ribbon, Afterthought, Culver Lass, slid St. Charles, worked separately and executed good working gallops. Thera and Skye 1 galloped: a' mile together. San Julie and Gaelic were sent together over seven furlongs, .the former having tho best of tho gallop., Sandstream, Irish Rifle, and Daisy Paul were as- . sociated in a seven furlong gallop., The firstnamed was in front all the way, and reached the post a length in front of Daisy Paul, with Irish Rifle'close up.
