RIFLE SHOOTING
NEW ZEALAND DEFENCE FORCES ASSOCIATION. The executive committee of the New Zealand Defence Forces Riflo Association met yesterday to consider certain matters relevant to the programme of events for the New Zealand Cliam'pionship Riflo meting at Treutham in March, 1909. '
, It was decided that the meeting would commence on Thursday, March 4, and conclude on Saturday, March 13, making a ten-days' meeting, instead of six days as previously. The final stage of the championship competition is to bo fired on the last .day of the meeting. Matches in the championship series will consist of 10-ahot contests at each of two ranges, not three as at last year's meeting.
In addition to tho usual programme, there will be included a "Service Aggregate," and "Teams Aggregate" competition. The list of prizes has been considerably augmented. In each championship match thero are now 100 prizes—7o for seniors, and 30 for tyros. .
To each of the first twenty-five in the championship list will be awarded, as an extra trophy; a special badge. In the six service matches which have been added to the programme, soveral new features will be introduced —snap-slioofcing, rapid-firing, loopholes, cover-fire, and attack practice—and prizes will be awarded iri~eacb series, as well as for ,the . aggregate. An important change has been made in the conditions of the teams' matches—series of six--whereby every company or riflo club will be enabled to ' compete. Tlie teams, except in the champion team's match, will consist of six men in each, of any rank. In the champion team's, 1 match the limit is five men. One entry fee will suffice for the six matches and "aggregate, the prizes being as usual. The..,Bisley regulation regarding back-sights on service rifles has been adopted. It is also stated that the M'CaUey wind-gauge is to be allowed—in fact, any wind-muge made entirely of metal,_ and adjustable to the service rifle by the withdrawal of the hinge-pin of the existing sight, will be admitted. The New Zealand Representative Rifle Team to-conlpete at the Empire Rifle Match at Sydney in. 1909, will be chosen at the close of the Trentliam championship meeting.
PETONE RIFLE CLUB. . The Petone . Rifle Club continued its competition Jon Saturday on the Waiwetu Range. Weather conditions were favourable up to tho GOO yards shoot, when the hitherto steady wind became' baffling. The competition will be continued" next Saturday. Ranges—6oo and 800 yards; 10 shots. On Wednesday next, the ranges will be 200, 500, and GOO yards; 7 shots. . Following were the scores:—
