WHERE DO YOU LIVE?
WELLINGTON CITY ELECTORATES. THE BOUNDARIES DEFINED. Although the general elections are only three weeks away, • and. the time for closing supplementary rolls is short, there are many who, owing to the recent changes in the boundaries, are yet in the dark as to which electorate their places of residence are'located in,- and consequently as to the group of candidates from which they will be called upon to select a representative' on' November 17. To dispel any uncertainty .on the question, we publish in this'issue a.sketch:' map of Wellington, showing the boundaries of the city electorates. The following descriptions of the boundaries set out in the plan may be additionally helpful to doubters. WELLINGTON NORTH. The Wellington North electorate commences at the northern end. of the Thorndon Esplanade. It follows the harbour front to that point where lower Ouba' Street becomes Jervois Quay proper, traverses Cuba Street to Dixon Street, then along that street up St. John's Steps to Woolcombe Street, proceeds as far south _ along that street to the Abel Smith Street intersection, .where it cuts up tho hill, takes in Kelburne, and then follows the line of the old-Karon Road as far as the southern end of Tinakori Road, and then, glancing off to the.nnrtH-wrst. the Tinakori range as iar us tnu uiu uuiindary between Wadestown. and.the city, iwhich it follows (excluding GoldieV Brae) to the starting point. , WELLINGTON CENTRAL. Wellington Central covers : the least ground of any of the. city electorates. _ From the point where lower Cuba Street, joins Jervois Quay its western boundary traverses Cuba Street as-far as Dixon Street, ..which it follows westward to Woolcbmbe f Street, and proceeds southward along that thoroughfare as far as Abel Smith Street, Where it travels west, taking in that block of suburban land that includes Aro Street,< Mit-chelltown, Taitville, and Epuni Street, until it reaches a point- on the Happy Valley' Road on the city side of Brooklyn, traverses that road to Wordsworth Street, turns'up Upper Willis Street into Webb Street, thence along Arthur and Buckle Streets to Tory Street, and straight 'down Vthat, street;to-the harbour front (Te' Aro railway station). WELLINGTON; EAST. Wellington East to the: north, and east is bounded by the harbour. ' Its western boundary commences at the To Aro railway station, it traverses southward via Tory Street, Banks Terrace, Tasmaii Street, and Crawford Street; thence down Jolni Street and southward along Revans Street to Mcin Street to the Town Belt line'in Kilbirnie, along which it travels northward' to -boundary between Kilbirnie North-and Hataitai, taking in the latter suburb (and excluding Kilbirnie) by cutting down to the harbour -at a point a little to the southward of the Patent Slip. WELLINGTON SOUTH. Wellington South is the only city electorate which does not depeud on any part of the
harbour front for a portion of its Taking tho junction of Buckle Street and Tory Street as a starting-point the northern boundary runs westward along Buckle Street, .Arthur Street, Webb Street, a tiny portion of Upper Willis .Street to enable it to pro. ceed up Wordsworth Street, .from which it breaks to proceed'up the Happy Valley (or Ohiro) Road to a. point nearly half-way be- ■ tween Wordsworth Street', -and Brooklyn. Then it cuts westward to. the western boundary of the city and after taking iii a block of tho old Melrose Ward, returns from the hills'to'take in- Brooklyn'.' ' The southern boundary descends from Brooklyn' to,.Waripori Street, which it . travels to-Russell. Ten race, turns northward down, ..that'., street, crosses Riddiford, Street, and proceeds along Rhodes arid Lawrence Streets, arid'over the hill to the \vestern boundary' .of Kilbirriie' ' (Tvhich it excludes), which it follows as far as Mein Street, which.it traverses ..westward to llevans .Street, thence northward via > that ■ thoroughfare, .and turning up. John Street'it runs along Crawford, Street, Tasman Street, Banks Terrace to'the starting-point. ■ '' ' ' WELLINGTON SUBURBS. The boundary lino ,for the Suburbs. Electorate, after commencing'in Evans Bay 'ion . south side of the Patent Slip, follows the ■ Hatajtai boundary lino till'it . reaches, .the Town Belt, thence along' to the southern end of Coromandel. Street; going down middle of Street, 'round a small portion of Daniel Street to Rhodes iStreet, till.ifc reaches Mansfield' Street, "up- the fceritre .' of Russell, Terrace to Waripori'Street arid its extension, when it goes in , westerly direction, cutting through. South' ttbad and: -tipper "Adelaide Road, round the Plague Hospital and the boundary line of Vogeltown' and: Mornington, till it-strike's Happy Valley Road, along .this road, at'back of .Vogeltown, to a'point opposite to Jackson Street, cutting through tho southern portion of Reuben" Avenue and Mitchell Street' (giving'tlre southern' residents to Suburbs and northern .'.to Wellington South); thence round the' back of Brooklyn,' Fitchetttown, Mitchelltown," aricl Taitville, along a small • portion of :the l 1 old Cemetery Road, and across country, folliwing 'the old boundary of Upland Farm, going across Plunket Street, thence to the corner of . Tram Road and Boundary Road,'taking a straight line to tho south end of tho Botanical .Gardens, . down centre of Tinakori Road, below the Garden gates to Karon, Crescent, along the first portion of the s'tre'efr'm a "straight line to the boundary of Ousloiv' Borough, rhich, excludes" Queen'B Park 1 , 1 but takes in loldie's' Brae arid the top of Grant Road, 'rnowri as .Park Street,' thence"; down to the sea at tho Tliofndon • Esplanade.; The; northern bouildary cuts a lirie between Porirua and Taw'a Flat (taking in'the latter) to the sea. The western, south-western, and"'southern boundary of Wellington' Suburbs -: is Cook I Strait. . ' ■ ,
