(BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPIKIOKT.) BAND CONTEST. (Rec. October 25, 4.30 p.m.) Melbourne, October 25, Great interest is being taken in the-"A" grade contests at Ballarat. The first honours went t-o Collingwood (Victoria) Band; Newton (New South Wales) was second, and Ballarat City third. Kaikorai had to be content with sixth place. Tho Inverell and Prout's Ballarat bands filled fourth and fifth places respectively. ■REFLOATED. (Rec. October 25, 4.30 p.m.) London, October 24. The Walden Abbey after jettisoning 1507 tons of cargo has been refloated and towed to Gravesend. INCOME TAX. Adelaide, October 34. The Treasurer, the Hon. A. Peake, has introduced income-tax proposals which provide that the .amount of exemption on incomes shall bo. increased to £209. When au income reaches £800, exemption disappears. STORM IN THE PHILIPPINES. Manila, Ootober 23. During the storm and flood experienced in tlie Philippines, three American boats' saved 100 out of 106 natives in a suburb of Aparri.
