Rathor an amusing little incident is told of an election that lately took place, says an Australian paper :-Al'A- Socialistic candidate at one of nis meetings advocated the economic. independence« of .women. _ One lady from the western districts of Victoria took a considerablo time in endeavouring to appreciate the subtle phrase. When she . did eventually come down .to it, she was -rather horrified, and expressed her dissatisfaction with tho stato of affairs,.somewhat' forcibly. In the end she came across one lady, who refused to be alarmed, so she crie<l in despair, 'Why; woman, they will take even your husband away, from you!'. An incredulous look passed over the countenance of the addressee, and one of anxious hopefulness gradually took its place. 'Do you really .think anyone could want James?' she said.
