NEW REGIUS PROFESSOR AT OXFORD.

The Rev. Ed.yard William Watson, M.A., Rector of Sutton, ■ and Professor of Ecclesiastical History in King's College, London, has been appointod Canon of Christ Church and Rogius Professor of Ecclesiastical History in the University of Oxford, in succession to the Rev. Canon Charles Bigg, D.D., deceased. The Rev. E. W. Watson, was educated at St. John's Collego, Oxford, of which society he was a scholar. He obtained a first class in Classical ' Moderations •in 1880, .'and a second class in Lit. Hum. in 1882. In the following year he was placed in the first class in tils Honour School of Modern History. He was ordained to the curacy of Holy Trinity, Birkenhead, by the Bishop of Chester (Dr. Stubbs), in 1885. In 1888 ho becamc missioner of St. Andrew's, Sarum, and warden in 1894, There he remainod until,, in 1900, he accepted from his collego tho rectory of Sutton, Sandy, Bedfordshire. Four years later ho was appointed Professor of Ecclesiastical History at King's College,- London, and he has been public examiner in theology at Oxford, in 1905-7. Tho new Canon lias written very little, his only published works, with the exception of a history of Aslimore, Dorset, being "Language and Stylo of St. Cyprian." 1896, and a translation, .with Professor Sandfly, of "St. Hiliary of Poitiers," 1899.
