INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS.
Mr. F. de J. Clere presided, at the annual meeting of the Wellington branch of'the ' New Zealand Institute of Architects held last evening. The annual report and bal-ance-sheet were adopted, and the following* ' officers were elected for the ensuing year :— ; President,-Mr.' J. Charlesworth j'vice-presi-dent,' Mr. F. Penty; joint secretary and trea-surer,'-Messrs. • L. B. Coombes and C. A. Lawrence; oouncil, Messrs." Crichton, Bacon, 'Clere', Schwartz, Livesay, and Coombes; delegates to the New' Zealand Institute, Messrs. Clere, Blake, Schwartz, Penty,' and Livesay. The'following resolution was unanimously : adopted" [That--the;- Wellington s branch of the :'New "Zedland', Institute of Architects— recognising thatj- in 'deference -to \tlie ■'ffishes' l oP'the people aH !f voiced°bJ'- th£%iem|bers of the Council and House of Representatives, and in fairness and eiquity .'to the architects' profession, all Government works of., importance should be competed for outside the Public Works Department'by, the. architects of tie Dominion—deprecates anything that may. have-been said or implied, in Parliament. derogatory .to the Government Architect's ability in the performance of his official duties, ■ and 'desires to record 'its 1 confidence in Mr. Campbell and its admiration for his public-spirited, devotion to the interests of the Dominion."'
