Sir Joseph Ward mil journey from Dunedin to Invercargill to-day, and the Hon. J. M'Gowan from .Wellington to New Plymouth. The Hon. J. Carroll is on his way to Gisborne. Tho Hon. J. A. Millar is at Dunedin, • and the Hon. G. Fowlds at Auckland. Tho Hon. W. Hall-Jones and the Hon. Dr. Findlay aro in Wellington, and the Hon. R. M'Nab is expected here from Carterton to-day. Mr. Seaforth Mackenzie left yesterday on a short visit to Melbourne. Mr. F. J. Wilson, solicitor in the Public Trust Office, left for Sydney by the Ulimaroa yesterday on holiday leave. Mr. Arthur Styan, the leading actor in the 131 and Holt Company, had the misfortune to break a small ligament in tho calf of his leg during tho performance of "Tho Bondman" on Thursday evening. The injury, which occurred as lie was walking across tho back of the stage, is not serious enough to prevent him playing. The local secretary of the Navy Leaguo (Mr. C. Palmer) has received a letter from Captain Crutchlcy, general seoretary in London, stating that Lieutenant Knox, R.N., organising lecturer for the Navy Leaguo in the United Kingdom, is a passenger by the R.M.S. Corinthic, due here on November 3. Lieutenant Knox is said to be a splendid lecturer on naval matters aud tho broader phases of natiqnal defence. Ho originally took up'the work for tho love of it, but. his lcctnres came to bo regarded as so valuable that there was such a demand for them that bo is now paid his bare expenses. His visit to Now Zealand is being made partly for health reasons, and hu is to return Homo by tlio Corinthic in December. Tho Rev. W. J. Williams has been asked to remain a fourth year iu charge of the Methodist Church, Wellington South, and ia consenting. Sir. A. A. C. Danby, Immigration Officer, has gone to Dunedin to meet the immigrants arriving-by tho Karamea'.' Ho is expected back on Monday, Mr It. L. Stanford, Stipendiary Magistrate for Wanganui, who has been indisposed for some time, is, according to the Wanganui " Herald," about to retire. Dr. Bell, Director of the Geological Sur- - voy, arrived from Auckland last evening. Ha will remain in town about a week before leaving for- tho Aniseed Valley, Auckland. Mr. Charles Berkeley, advance representative of the "Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch" Company, arrived in Wellington by last evening's express. The season com*. mences on Saturday next. Archdeacon Scott, relating anecdotes connected with the career of Archdeacon Harpei on the West Coast at the Christchurch Anglican Synod on Thursday night, said that the archdeacon was admired by everybody on the coast both for his spiritual forco and his athletic prowess. A Nonconformist clergyman once conceded to the speaker that Archdeacon Harper would be a very good man if he were only converted. In his address at the opening of the Christchurch Diocesan Synod on Tuesday, Bishop Julius said no official reply had been received from Homo as to the possibility of obtaining a Mission of Help for New Zealand. It was probable,. however, that tho Bishop of Stepney (Dr. Cosmo : Lang) would come out to Australia, and give a series of addresses to men. Understanding this, tho New Zealand _ bishops had requested liira jto extend his visit to New Zealand.'; The Bishop of Stepney was well known ;as one of the strongest and ablest men in : ' England, and they could wish for nothing beflter than a visitfrom him, in preparation for a general mission. '• At the invitation of tho Young Men's Christian Associations of the Dominion, the Rev. David Russell, of South Afrio'p, is now in Auckland holding a series of 'meetings specially for mon. Mr. Russell is completing a two years' trip round the world' in tho interests of the Young Men's Christian Associations. He has had many years''experience as an evangelist to men, and everjwnero has had great success. Mr.-Russell is ; a big, rugged man, with an intensely virile personality.- Ho has just concluded a great mission to men in Melbourne. Ho. is a speaker pos-' sessing a magnificent voice; which ho knows how to use to the best advantage. His addresses, it is said, are remarkable for their freshness and force. Mr. Russoll knowß South Africa and its problems. Before'ho closes his mission he will deliver a lecture entitled " From tho Cape to Zambesi." This will bo illustrated by pictures supplied by the Cape Government-. He starts his work in this city on Sunday, November 1, and soveral meetings a day will be arranged for up to November 8. A Press Association cablegram received from Melbourne at 10.55 last evening announces the death of Mr. Herbert Flomming, actor-manager. Mr. Herbert Flemming belonged to Christchurch originally. He first came into prominence as. a member of; tho company headed by Miss Janet Acliurch, who played "The Doll's House" and "Forget-me-not," on a New Zealand ■ tour. -After his association'with this company, Mr., Hern- ■ ming developed; into a-, very fine jm'enilß actor, being a handsome and intelligent young man. He went Homo, played in the English provincos" for sotne time, and subsequently went to South Africa, where he remained for some years in management. Oa . his return to' Australia ho formed a partnership with the late Mr. .Robert Brough in the Brough-Flemmtng Comedy Company. The company played "Beauty and the Barge" and others, touring New Zealand towns. Mr. Flemming, was last through the Dominion some five or six months ago with a, company of his own, 1 headedt-by .'Miss Beatrice Day,, playing "The Morals of Marcus," "Dr. Wake's Patient," "The Mummy and tho Humming Bird," and others. Mr. Flemming has not been in the best of health for some time past, and it is said that, lie -was suffering from heart trouble.' was Madame Minna Fischer, the well-known "teacher of voice production iu London.' Mr. Flemming was about 54 years of age.
