DEATH OF DUSKY MORN.
A telegram recoived in .the city last night 'records the death of Dusky Morn yesterday. Dusky Morn was a five-j-ear-old bay gelding ■ by Sou'-woster, from Swift, by Nadador, and was owned and bred by Mr. G. F. Moore, of Kai-Iwi. Ho commenced his racing career by running second to Miiskerry in a maiden hack race at the Rangitikci Racing Club's Spring Meeting last season, and the following week won a maiden race at Wangauui, beating, among others, Bobrikoff, to whom he conceded 91b. He next started at tho AVaverleyTuaitotara Meeting, whero ho won two four-, furlong races. At the Manawatu Summer ■Meeting lie ran unplaced behind Splendid Idea in the Awapuni Handicap, but won the Kawau Stakes on the last day of the meeting, aiid the following day at Ashhurst ha beat Buccleuch and Lord Soult in the Fohangina Handicap.- In February last ho was taken to Australia to compote in the Newmarket Handicap, and ran fifth in that event bohind Scotland, Grenadier, Akim Foo, and Munject, and was unplaced in another event fit tho same meeting; After returning to the Dominion, he was sent to the Fcilding Easter Meeting, whero he ran second to Gold Thread in the Mangaone Stakes pnd won the Denbigh Stakes on the second day. He was being prepared for the Stewards' Handicap, but went wrong recently. His record in New Zealand was: —Nine starts, six times placed first, twice second, and once unplaced. Best times;— Four furlongs, 48scc.; six furlongs, lmin. 14 1-Sscc.
