THE GENERAL OUTLOOK.
DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS. Reports received by the Chief Inspector of Stock from' the inspectors throughout the Dominion indicate, almost without exception, very favourable conditions for crops, pastures, and stock: Tho lambing has been unusually prolific. There has been a very low; percentage of losses, and the lambs are.making good progress.'
Grass everywhere is abundant, and seems to bo of superior quality, as there'is much' less scouring among sheep than is usually the case in tho spring of the year. The antumn-sown crops are in a very forward condition, although in , some localities traces are to be seen of the effects of the dry weather during August and September. Later-sown crops did not at first make rapid headway, but during the last three or four weeks, under the influence of, the frequent showers, growth has been very satisfactory.
