The Bowling Season. . Tho formal opening of tho. season at a bowling green is a dclicato operation that requires Hno wea.ther, or at least dry weather, so yesterday morning, with its threatening clouds, was an anxious time for the members of tho Kelburno Bowling Club, who had arranged for the. opening in the afternoon. Fortunately tho clouds cleared awuy, and tho afternoon, bright and mild, was in every way a success. Mr. Dinnie, president of tho club, declared the green open, and during the rest of the afternoon play went on steadily, while tho ladies connected with the club and their .visitors looked on, some of them at last having a, game by themselves. Afternoon tea was served in tho pavilion, where Mrs. Arndt had i.-ovided all sorts of delicacies. A largo number of visitors was present. Mrs. Dinnie wore a pretty brown cloth costume and toquo of brown tulle with green and brown plumes; Miss Kelly, tho new secretary of tho Ladies' Club, lvoro a frock of black chiffon taffetas, and a black picture hat; Mrs.'M'Villy, dark blue, coat and skirt, with cerise ha.t trimmed with largo black plumes; Mrs.' Izard, cream serge coat and skirt, and black mushroom hat lined ' with pink; Miss Myers, '.tussore frock and brown hat; Mrs. J. M. Clarke, cream costlime and . smart hat .with .green wings; Mrs. Knollys, striped black arid white', frock with black hat; Mrs. C. Wilson', cream' serge costume; Mrs. Dawson, brown cloth coat and skirt ' and brown hat:; with greon wings; Mrs.. Coulls, black arid white.. striped frock and black hat;' Mrs. Miller,.frock of embroidered ivory , cloth,:, with touches of blue,: and high-crowricd' blue' hat. . Others present'were Mrs. Corrigan, Mrs. Hodgkiris, Mrs. Carter, , Mrs. Buckeridge, Mrs. ~C. Richardson, Mrs. Pickon, Mrs. 'Bolton, and Miss Glasgow. . • ; • ;; .
Miss Joan Hislop returned to Wellington by the.Malieno yesterday from her long visit to the Old World. Mr. and 'Mrs. L. Dwan returned by the Maherio yesterday from a visit Australia. Mrs. Beero arid Miss Estelle Beere -are .-going for a six months' trip to. England and tho Continent. They leave by the .Ulim'aroa on November 5 for Australia, via tho Bluff. , Mr. and, Mrs... John Duncan returned by the Maheno yesterday from a trip to' Sydney. - Mr. and, Mrs. Louis Schatz, of Wellington,, who, have, been;, on a visit to London, re\ turned by tho Maheno yesterday. On Monday evening the ■. members of •: the Miramar Rangers' Association Football Club held their. first annual social at Miramar. During; the evening graphaphone 'selections were,given by Mr.' Chambers,- and songs by Mrs.', Shine, Mrs. Power, . Miss Houchui, and Messrs. - 'Howe, • Houchin, Taylor, Power, and 1 and Redshaw. Tho evening wound up with a dance, and at the; close tnree cheers -were given for. those ladios and gentlemen who had' made the evening such a success. • .On Saturday last at St. Peter's Church, Petone, bj; the Rei\ '6: P. Davys, Mr. - William C. Gibson, of the Petono Railway Signal Department, was married 't-o Miss Ivie Livermoro, of .Wellington. The bride-was attended.by Miss B. Cuhnmgh'anii and Miss I. Petty as bridesmaids. Mr., Campbell Gibson was best' man, arid Mr. W. Church groomsr man. After tho ceremony the party Were en ; tertained at a wedding breakfast. Among the wedding presents was a handsomo silver calto dish from Miss Livermore's fellow-employees in the Stamp Department, which had been presented to her at an evening party given in her honour by Mr. Burns during the previous week. Mrs. wlib ""has" been visiting. Mrs.' Seddon, left for Christchurch last night.
