LABOUR DAY.

CELEBRATIONS AT MIRAMAR. CARNIVAL AND SPORTS. Perfect weather prevailed yesterday for fcho observance of Labour Day at Wonderland, Miramar, where a carnival and sports wore held under tho auspices of the Trades and Labour Council and tho unions of Wel.lington. The indications wore somewhat doubtful in tho morning, but the sky cleared boautifully, with tho result that a very largo number of people made tho journey. The tram arrangements were very satisfactory and enabled tho heavy traffic to be handled expeditiously. Full cars poured in from eleven to four o'clock, depositing their thousands of pleasure-seekers on tha pretty i grounds. A largo squad of police, under Sub-Inspector Phair and Sergeant Dale, was in attendance, but tho crowd was. vory orderly. Thero were no speeches of any. description, not even by tho Labour candidates for Parliament, who wero all prosent. Two placards wore visible giving tho names of the Trades and Labour candidates, but, otherwise, the gathering might have been an ordinary summer sports meeting. Speaking on the subject to a Dominion representative, one of the officials said: —"Labour is not electioneering • to-day; wo are hero for a holiday."
