THE HOLIDAY. > , The holiday yesterday prored most efijej able, and, being fine, crowds of pleaSiifry seekers made their way to different places. One of the attractions was the Fire Brigade's demonstration on tho Recreation Ground, when several teams tried conclusions, and some very good times wore put up by some of the teams. The following are tho details of tho'competitions: — '* Five-Men Reel—Petone, lmin. 2sec., lj Workshops, lntin. 10 4-ssec., 2; Gear Company, lmin. 13 4-sfcc., 3. _ ' Five-Men Flat Competition.—Gear Company No. 1 team, timo 40sec., 1; Gear No. 3 team, timo 40 l-Ssec., 2; 'Workshops, timo 41sec., 3. Tho three-mon flat competition had to be abandoned owing to tho hose bursting. Two-men Coupling.—Pctouo No. 3 team, timo, 34 l-sscc. Tho remaining competitions aro to bo got off on Saturday afternoon next. Messrs. Hall, Whitehead, Brookes, and Warden acted as judgos and timekeepers for tho different events, anditha Petone Brasi Band played seloctions on tha ground during tho afternoon. Tho Wellington City Salvation Army Brass Band gavo an enjoyable concert in tho Petono Salvation Army Hall last night. Tho hall was well filled, and each item was well received, and several cncored.
