METHODIST ANNIVERSARY,
TARANAKI STREET SUNDAY SCHOOL, The annual tea and public meetiug in connection with tho anniversary of Wesley Church Sunday School, Taranaki. Street, passed off with largo attendances and much enthusiasm last evening. At the meeting Mr. T. Ralph presided, and speeches were made by the Rev. S. J. Sorpell, Mr. Garrard (superintendent), and Mr. W. Howe (infants' school). Tho church was filled, and special hymns were sung by the children. The annual report, which was adopted, gave the following particulars of school progress:—Number of officers and teachers, 37; average attendance, 34; number of scholars at present on roll, 613; averago attendance, 412; scholars left during year, 167; new scholars during year, 164; total number of scholars on register, 7762; number of books m library (about), 1100; number -on Bible Class rolls, young ladies 62, young men 60. Infant Class—Number of scholars on. roll, 229; average attendance, 151; number of birthday letters sent, 253;, visits paid to scholars, 211 • number of visitors to classroom, 780.-',' Cradle Roll—Total number enrolled, 585; enrolled during year, 86; now in infant class, 86; birthday cards sent, 233. Twenty-six scholars entered for the Sunday School Union Scripture Examination.—Daisy Calvest (Ist. in Grade II), Claudia Jones, Mavis Skinner, Oliver Sims, and Ivy Sims secured prizes. Fifteen others obtained certificates. Those obtaining the highest marks in the annual Tablet Examination were:—Senior division—Elfio Jacobson and Daisy Calvert (equal), William Irvine. Junior ■ division—-Ida,, Jacobson, Gordon .Irvine;)' Pp. Mary division—Alico Jacobson and .< Ida Thompson (equal), Ernest Upton. Neatest Tablets—lsabel Turnbull, Norman Rowe. ■ The annual treat was held at Day's Bay. The interior of tho school has been repainted and decorated. Thanks tiro given to Mr. Paine, of Blenheim, for'designing the decorations, and to Mr. G. E. Godber for efficiently carrying out the work. Owing to exceptional outlay for the piano and painting, the balance-sheet showed a heavy deficiency! A special appeal was therefore made to parents and friends to respond handsomely to the yearly request for funds to onable tho work for the young people to the elßcientlv carried on. There was no other source o'l revenue, as the Sunday contributions of the scholars were entirely devoted to missions. The appeal has met with a good responso, for about £130 has been received as the result of the Sunday collections and last night's tea. It is expected that other amounts still to come in will raise the total to £160.
