ANNUAL SHOW, NOVEL GUESSING COMPETITION. Tho twonty-seoond annual show of : tho Wellington Kennel Club was opened at the Skating' Rink yosterday afternoon, in the presonco of a largo assembly. Mr. T: M. Wilted, M.P. (president of tho club), and the Mayor (Hon. T. W. Hislop) spoko at the. official .opening. -Tlio -latter put a 'match to the giant candlo, which is tho subject of a guessing competition, open to all visitors to tho show. The candle is about sft, long and of proportionate diameter, and the question is: How long will it burn? It was lit at 3.38 p.m. yesterday. Tho Prime} Minister and Lady Ward visited the show yesterday afternoon, and each recorded an, opinion as to the moment the extraordinary candle will flicker out. Thero is reason for satisfaction on the part of tho Kennel Club, for the hall contains quito;as many dogs as in previous years. Judging" took tho best' part' of the day, and not until , late in the afternoon were the last decisions arrived at. Tho club's judges are: —Mr. Paul Hunter (sporting dogs), Mr. A. W. Wilkins, Sydney (bullMr. Alex. Brown, late of Stirling, Scotland (Scottish ' and Sfcyo terriers), and Mr. S. Johnson (all other breeds). The committee wero careful in their preparations, and Mr. A. H. Smith has carried out tho secretarial cjuties capably.' Thero was a splendid attendance of dogfanciers yesterday,'and it is hoped that the public will continue to tako 'interest.
