PERSONAL NOTES FROM LONDON. London, September 3. , Mr. S. l J. Parkes, of To Aroha, who arrived by tho Modic, lias been in London -and visiting relatives in Lancashire. Tho coming month he will spend in Scotland. ' Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hayton, of Wanganui, arrived in London on August, 11 by the s.s. Orient. They intend to visit Scotland and the Continent, and will not return for somo months. Mr. E. Wilson, of Auckland, and his son have returned to London from a trip' to Irelaud and Scotland. They leave again 011 September 5 for Paris and Switzerland, and join tho Seydlitz at Naples on September Mr. A. R. Seymour, of Timaru, who arrived by tho Athenie, will spend about ten weeks in. this country, leaving for New Zealand in October. Most of liis time will be spent in London and tho South of England. • Mr. Barry. Conoy, of Auckland, who had a most successful career as a student at the Royal, Academy of Music last year, taking all the awards possible, has been engaged to sing with the ■ English Ladies' Orchestra during their November tour. Miss Leah Roberts, of Timaru, is now in London intent on establishing in tho West End a dress-cutting system, of which she is the inventor and patentee. The system is now an exhibit at tho Franco-British Exhibition. Miss Roberts intends touring in Scotland, Ireland, and Germany, ero returning ,to tho Dominion, by way of America. Miss E. S. Orchard, daughter of the late Rev. J. Orchard, of Christchurch, who has been on a summer trip to Holland and Germany, in company with Miss Gertrude Smith, of Christchurch, has just entered 011 a two years' courso of study at the London Royal Academy of Music. Till tho term begins at tho end of September, she is with relatives in Liverpool. Mr. Thos.' Coverdale, of Christchurch, has been revisiting England after an absence of 20 years, and with Mrs. Coyerdalo has travelled extensively in tho United Kingdom. They are now spending a week or two in tho Islo of Wight, prior to leaving for tho Continent. They join tho Ortona at Marseilles in the middlo of September, eh route to New Zealand.

Mr. George Sinnott, of Auckland, who is visiting tho Old Country, after an absence of 33 years, accompanied by his wife and his niece, Miss F. B. Jones; has spent several weeks in tho Isle of Wight, also visiting Portsmouth, Paris, and other places. They returned to London recently for another few weeks, and will go again to the Isle of Wight for a few days beforo sailing on September 17. Mr. Newman Hall and Mr. Albert E. Wilson, of Christchurch, who. recently arrived in London, have toured in India and the Malay States, and lived in Japan for some months, afterwards coining to Europe by the TransSiberian Railway route. Their railway journey from Nugata, in North Japan, to London, via Harwich, constitutes what they believe to be a woHd's record for a continuous railway journey, they having travelled over 7500 miles by train. They intend staying hero about nine months, visiting Scotland, Ireland, France, Italy, and then touring the United States, visiting tho large Seattle Exnibition next year, and arriving in Now Zealand about Christinas, 1909, via the Hawaiian Islands and Fiji. . Mr. Charles C. Reado is returning to New Zealand after three, years' absence in London, to take up a position on tho New Zealand press. Ho will spend a month on the Continent, visiting Paris, Berlin, Vienna, Venice, and Genoa, and join the Seydlitz at tho last-named port on September 13, en route for Australia and Now .Zealand. Tho Rev. A. F. Smith, of Northcote, Auckland, is hard at 'work in a South London parish,, of . which ho has taken charge during the vicar's absence on holiday. Mrs. Smith and ho attended tho plosing service in connection with the Lambeth Conference, at which 243 bishops wore .present in their convocation'.robes. . After 'September, Mr. Smith is going on a preaching and _ lecturing tour for the Society for Promoting tho Gospel in Foreign Parts. Ho will visit Lichfield, Southwell, Oakham, and Norwich, completing his tour on December 1. Mrs. C. Kirkby, president of tho Auckland 'Women's' Political League, is now in London studying the question of women's suffrage. Aftor a spell in 1 London, Mrs. Kirkby intends to make a brief tour in Ireland, and will probably spend a week or two in 'Paris, ere returning to Now Zealand, whoro sho expects to arrive about Christmas. Among recent arrivals in London is Mr. Laurenco W. Tingoy, of Wellington.. In company with Mr. Thomas J. Hurrell, of Hurrell Bros., Hawera, Mr. Tingoy travelled by way of Vancouver and tho States. In Canada tho travellers encountered Mr. Davidson, orstwhilo of Otago, and were invited by liiiu to stay for.a few days at his farm.- Mr. Tingoy and Mr. Hurreil expect to remain in tho Old Country two or three months; and will return to Now Zealand by the Suez routo, visiting I'aris, Berlin, Vienna, and other Continental centres on their way to l'ort Said. They expect to reach Now Zealand again about Christmas. /
