LARRIKINISM IN CHRISTCHURCH
' 4 A STREET FIGHT. (BY TELEQBAPn.—SrECUL ConnESroNDKNT.I Ohristohuroh, October 13. An unusual amount of rowdiuess was manifest in tho streets last evening, and a fight, which looked as if it might lead to serious consequences, occurred "in Gloucester Street, near the "Lyttelton Times" ofiico. Two young men, who had a valuable bull dog with them, were accosted by some other men, who, it was stated, first made remarks about the dog and then kicked it. Its owners endeav. oured to defend it, and were at once set upon by tho other 1 three, who gavo them an unmerciful beating. . A crowd quickly gathered, and feeling ran so high that they wcro beginning to take sides, and a riot appeared imminent, when tho arrival of a constable stopped the fight. Tho men who had been attacked were given what attention they immediately needed, and it was found that one had a lacerated ear, and both had their faces considerably cut and bruised. Tho larrikinism broko out again a little later on. A man who was cycling past His Majesty's Theatro was stopped by someone who threw a chair in front of his machine. When ho protested ho was hurried on his way by having beer bottles thrown at him.
