CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
The monthly meoting of the Council of tho Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday afternoon, when thero were present:—Messrs. J. G.- Harkuess, president (in the chair), G. Wilson,. D. J. Nathan, G. Shirtcliffe, J. M'Lellan, H. C. .TewslejvC.l W. Jones, and E. G. Pilcher. Messrs. B. E. Whitcombe, B. Van Stavoren, and H. C. Gibbons were elected to membership. ' The Canterbury Chamber. of Commcrco wroto suggesting that an invitation bo oxtended to delegates from British, chambers of commerce, who will be attending the .congress in Australia next year, to includo New Zealand in their itinerary.- — It-was agreed to endorse/the action of the Canterbury Chambor. 1 Mr. Loveday, settler- from Ohura, waited on the council to enlist its support in urging tho early prosecution-*of tho StrafordOngaruhe Railway, as autlioris'od. - The meeting resolved that the: .Government be urged to 1 proceed with the construction of the lino as quickly as possible. -
