WILL LABOUR ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY? the furness offer. TWO CONFLICTING OPINIONS. (BT TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPiRIGHT.) London, October 9. Mr. W. C. Stcadman, Liberal and Labour M.P. for Finsbury Central, has had something to say regarding tho offers of Sir Christopher Furness (head of tho shipbuilding firm of Furness, Withy and Co.) to sell to trade unions connected with shipbuilding his firm's shipyards at Hartlepool, or, as an alternative, admit them to co-. partnership, provided they give a pledge not to strike. Mr. Steadman says the offers are not worth the, paper they are written on, and .ho ,is sure they will bo rejected. Mr. Richard Bell, Labour member for Derby, says that if neither offer is accepted it will be a serious reflection on organised labour.
