MAKARA COUNTY COUNCIL.

Tho monthly meeting of the MakaraCounty Council was 'held on Saturday- morning, thero being present :Mr. F. H. Hawkins (in the chair), and Councillorn J. H. Haggerty, S. Bryant, I'\ T. Moore, T. H. Eastwood, and Geo. Monk. ■ Tho District Health, Officer informed tho council that complaint had been lodged with liim as to the condition of tho open drain behind somo cottages at Ngahauranga. He recommended that it be cleared out,' and that an extension of tho concreted part be made. It was decided to instruct tho owner to comply with the Health Officer's requirements, the work to be commenced within twenty-ono days, and to bo completed "iri two months. ~ Tho Department o'f Roads acknowledged receipt of letters of July 13 and 17, urging that tho Hawtrey Estate roads 011 the boundary of tho Johnsonvillo Town Board be connected with tho streets intersecting same.' In reply, the council was informed that the roads or streets wero in good order and well made when they wero handed over hy the Department. Tho work of connecting thorn with tho Johnsonvillo streots was a matter for tho council or tho town board to considor. Under the' circumstances, and as thero was no money availablo for' this work, the Minister could not seo his way to comply with tlio request. Tho letter was received. ■ Accounts amounting to £184 10s. 2d. woro passed for payment, and tho meeting .adjourned. .
