' ANNUAL MEETING. The anuual meeting of the ■Wellington Philosophical Society,, held at Victoria' College last ovening, was largely attended, lhe retiring president (Professor H. B. Kirk) preThe report' and balance-sheet • (published yesterday) were adopted. 1 Officers for the incoming year were elected as follow: —President, Mr. A. Hamilton; vice-presidents, Mr. G. V. Hudson, I'.E.S., and Mr. C. E. Adams, B.Sc.; council, Mr. T. W. Kirk, F.L.S., Dr. A. K. Newman, Mr. Martin Chapman, K.C., Dr. Ernest Dillon Bell, Dr. Charles Munro Hector, Professor Easterfiold, and Professor H. B. Kirk; secretary aud treasurer, Mr. Thomas King; auditor' Mr. E. H. D.vmock, A.i.A.N.Z. , Dr; Newman exhibited some curious Maori musical instruments, not found in Ivew " ea " laud, including two drums., a pan pipe, and another instrument which, ho said, none Had been able to play. ' Dr. Newman showed himself a good deal of an espert vith the less difficult instruments. He recounted, in a very interesting .manner, some P Ol " t3 semblance between' certain Mlaon customs and tho customs of some natives ot India.
