ENTERTAINMENTS.
"THE GREAT MILLIONAIRE." Tho Opera House was full to repletion again last evening when the Bland Holt Company repeated its fine performance of "Tho Great Millionaire." Tho piece is refreshingly hale and hearty. There is a definite idea, worked out fairly logically to a satisfactory conclusion, and enhanoed with scenery from a master-hand, and all tho appurtenances that make for realism. The performance of Mr. Arthur Sta'yn as John Lascelles Campbell is ono of tho strongest stage creations seen in Wellington for some time. Misses Harrio and Daisy Ireland, Mrs. Holt, and Messrs. Max Maxwell, Charles Brown, G. Cass, and Bland Holt, all contribute valuably to tho working out of what is a stirring stage story. Tho necessary element of thrill culminates in a motor-car, laden with tho villain and liis spoil, shooting over a cliff, as its petroltank bursts in quite a hair-raising manner. Tho fine scenery of Mr. John Brunton is a feature of tho play. ■ ■ THE WORLD WIDE PICTURES. Pictures from tho ends of all tho earth, pictures constituting five-minute dramas, pictures dealing with the "chase" joke, and pictures of the beautiful aiid- the pathetic are to be found in-tho series now being spun nightly at the Theatre Royal. THE ROYAL PICTURES. Though the weather was extremely unpleasant last night, it did not deter a number of people from visiting His Majesty s Theatre, where tho programme of moving pictures was much appreciated. , To-night tho usual change of programme will bo made, when tho management states that, in keeping with its policy, all the subjects shown will bo entirely new to Wellington, a large shipment having just arrived direct from Home; a number of the pictures will bo shown for tho first time in Australasia. The usual matinee will be held on Saturday. WEST'S PICTURES. West's Pictures attracted another large audience to the Town Hall last evening, in spite of the heavy rainfall. One of the best of a very interesting portfolio included an extended film, showing the King and Queen of England acting the " entente cordiale" with , their Majesties of Italy on board the steamship Roma. Tho seashore scenes near Biarritz are very beautiful, and one feels • quite invigorated physically in watching the "boys of tho bull-dog breed" exercising at Wliale Island, Portsmouth, and subsequently at work and play on board ship. There arc" als'd good story pictures, and a bright array of "comics" to cheer up the depressed. The management announce a matinee for Saturday next. To-night tho present programmo will, be presented for tho last time, a complete of pictures and music being announced for to-morrow (Thursday). SCARLET TROUBADOURS. This clever company of refined vocalists, sketch.artists, and dancers entertained another appreciative audience at the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall last evening. There is a commendable standard of merit attained by the Troubadours that is rarely met with in one company, the achievement of which must spell success. A bright speciality is the rapid chalk' sketches of Mr. Percival Mackenzie, whose patter is as'amusing as bis lino is stroiig. miss ireNe~ainsley. { The box plans for the return concert season of the Now Zealand contralto, Miss Irene Ainsley, will ho opened at the Dresden f on Friday morning next at 9 o'clock. The seating accommodation for this season will be limited, as tho management lias engaged tho Concert Chamber for the occasion. Tlii? fact, together with the popular prices decided upon, and the undoubted favour which Miss Ainsley won on her recent visit to Wellington, should promote brisk booking. The dates of tho concerts are notified in our advertising columns. •
