He is expected to return on Friday. 1 Mr. J. Studholnle, of Coldstream, returned from iiis visit to England by the Atheiiic yesterday, and he is spendirig some days with Mrs. Rhodes at the Grange. A Napier Press Association telegram states that the tlawke.'s Day Presbytery yesterday decided to noriiihate the Rev. Isaac Jolly, of Paliscrston North, as Moderator of the General Assembly for 1908-9; Mr. L. W. Ward, of tho Wellington Land arid Survey Department, has arrived in Napier, and.next week will liiidertake the survey, of the Ruahiiie Forest Reserve, part of' which will be < cut up for closer settlement. Mr. M. Herrold; manager of the Napier branch of the New Zealand lusurauco Company, has been promoted to the management of tho company's branch at. Dueuos Ayres. Gilmer, of the Training College, has been appointed to an assistantship at Island Bay; . .Tho.death occurred yesterday morning of Mr. Edward Wilson, licensee of the Club Hotel, and ivlio for many years was proprietor of tlio Post Office Hotel, arid, inore' recently of the Albert Hotel. Mr. Wilsoii, who was born iii Cumberland, England, iii 1840, was originally a miner at Whitbbiiri. He subsequently became a colliery mechanic, aiid visited America, where ho engaged in goldmining iii Nevada, aiid coal-mining in British Columbia. After returning to England, ho came oiit to Now Zealand in 1875, and was employed at the Otago Foundry, Dunediu, during the. time the first locomotive built in New Zealand was in course of construction. Later he entered tho Railway Department, which ho left to go in for hotelkeeping. Mr. Wilson is survived by his second wife and an adult son. At a meeting of the West Coast Association last evening a voto of sympathy arid condolence was carricd.
