ARBITRATION BILL FURTHER AHENDED. A STORM IN THE COUNCIL, WOODWARD STREET TRANSACTION. NEW PARLIAMENT BUILDINGS. The Council had a long day's work yesterThe Public Bodies' Leases Bill was further amondedj and the Infants Act Amendment Bill'was put through all its stages at" tho morning sitting. Thore was considerable excitement during tho: afternoon, when Mri Rigg delivered an uncompromising attack upon the Arbitration Bill,; and upon the Government for their action in connection with it. Tho Attornoycloarly had tho Council with him in flis defence, and Mr. Rigg's destructive amendment found no seconder. Subsequently, the. samo member played a lono hand in an attempt to delay .the committee proceedings. The amendments—chiefly' matters of drafting and machinery—niado by tho Labour Bills Committee wero adopted, and ono or two/others of some importance were made later in the evening.. Two: subjects of importance woro dealt with in the House —the report of the Land Committee on tho Woodward Street transaction; and.the report,of the Joint Committee on the Parliamentary Buildings: The debate on tho. former Subject, which stood as the first order, of tho day, was continued into the evening. The-report was then adopted. ' The'debate on the proposed-Parliamentary Buildings occupied the rest of tlio evening. The-'speeches were, mainly, recapitulations sf former remarks.
